Weslo cross trainers are budget ellipticals from ICON Health and Fitness, the world’s largest producer of fitness equipment. ICON, a Utah-based corporation, also owns NordicTrack, ProForm, HealthRider, and several other brands of ellipticals.

Weslo ellipticals are priced for budget-minded consumers. The machines generally receive positive reviews from beginners, but many customers choose to upgrade after a year or two of training.

Brand Features of Weslo Ellipticals

Some typical features of Weslo elliptical machines include:

  • Just the basics – As discount elliptical trainers, Weslo machines do not include extras such as incline ramps or built-in sound systems.
  • Shorter strides These ellipticals are best for short to average-height users. Some Weslo models, such as the 620 elliptical, have strides that are too short for just about anyone. The 220X and the 730 have 18” strides, the longest of any Weslo ellipticals.
  • Lower capacity – Weslos may be sturdy for lightweight users, but they aren’t recommended for people who weigh more than 150 pounds or so. Customer reviews have cast doubt on the ellipticals’ advertised capacities of 250 pounds. For instance, the Momentum 630 weighs just 94 pounds. Of all the Weslo ellipticals, the 950 might offer the best stability for heavier users.
  • Few programs – Some Weslo cross trainers have 10 pre-set workouts. Others have only two or four.
  • Poor resistance – Many Weslo machines have manual resistance, which provides less powerful workouts than does magnetic resistance. Also, whereas 16-20 levels of resistance are standard with other brands, Welso ellipticals have 10 resistance levels at most.
  • Poor warranty – Weslo equipment includes short 90-day warranties on the parts and electronics.

Overall Rating for Weslo Ellipticals

Weslo ellipticals are entry-level trainers for people with small strides. They aren’t intended for people who are very fit and need a challenge, nor are they suitable for heavier individuals. Weslos may wear out after a year or two or become so wobbly that they’re set aside.

These machines may be useful in the short term, but it might be wiser to join a gym that has high quality equipment. If you definitely want a discount elliptical, then your best bet with Weslo could be the Momentum 730.
