Reebok Stride Select RL6.0 Elliptical Review – A Low-Budget Elliptical Trainer

Click here for a Special Offer on the Reebok Stride Select RL6.0 Elliptical

The Reebok Stride Select RL6.0 is a very low-priced elliptical trainer. It has 18 built-in workouts, an iFit workout card reader for personal training, and a manually adjustable ramp.

This product receives just two of five stars in our elliptical review. Too many customers have reported shoddy parts and poor engineering.

What to buy instead: For the same price of $999 you can buy the durable Vision X10. It has a long stride, a heavy flywheel and a great warranty. NordicTrack and Sole also offer better products for similar prices.

Elliptical Hits of the Reebok Stride Select RL6.0 Elliptical

What’s the appeal of the Reebok RL6.0? Here are some selling points:

  • Oversized cushioned pedals – Oversized pedals let people adjust their feet to find a comfortable stride, and they allow for repositioning to avoid discomfort. The cushioning also helps reduce fatigue.
  • Programs – This Reebok has 18 built-in workout programs ranging from 20 to 45 minutes in length. Eight are focused on weight loss and ten are focused on performance.
  • iFit card reader – The iFit card reader lets owners get virtually unlimited personal training workouts. Exercise cards are sold separately and contain eight weeks of customizable exercise sessions.
  • Workout fan – A console fan is well-positioned for people of average to taller heights.
  • Compact size – The SpaceSaver design lets you fold the machine to free up floor space. Some customers find the folding system a bit unwieldy though because of the elliptical’s weight.

Elliptical Misses

  • Stride length — The stride length isn’t advertised, which isn’t a good sign. A comfortable and natural elliptical stride should be the main selling point of an elliptical trainer.
  • Smaller range – This discount elliptical trainer has 14 resistance levels, but 20 is standard. It likely has a light flywheel and a relatively low maximum watts.
  • Heart monitor – A hand grip heart rate monitor is included. Customers have complained that it’s so inaccurate, it’s useless!

Overall Rating for the Reebok Stride Select RL6.0 Elliptical

Although some customers’ reviews have been positive, we aren’t comfortable recommending this elliptical trainer. Just a few drawbacks are its noise level and an inaccurate heart rate monitor. We’d also like to see data about the stride, flywheel and warranty. It’s odd that those aren’t made prominent. For better options at the same price, see the Vision Fitness X10 or the lineups by Sole Fitness and NordicTrack.

Reebok RX4.0 Recumbent Bike

Reebok RX4.0 Recumbent Bike Review – Impressive Quality for the Price

Click here for a Special Offer on the Reebok RX4.0 Recumbent Bike

The Reebok RX4.0 is a low-priced recumbent bike. Recumbent bikes have been likened to elliptical machines because they support cardio training while ensuring minimal impact upon joints. The recumbent bike brings the added benefit of taking pressure off your back.

Thirty workout programs and an iFit card reader are included on this model. The bike has a 350-pound capacity and holds up well under use. However, it has a short warranty (one year).

The Reebok RX4.0 sells for about $600. For a more expensive medical-grade exercise bike, check out the PhysioStep by HCI Fitness.

Elliptical Hits of the Reebok RX4.0 Stationary Bike

Elliptical Misses

  • Short warranty – Reebok’s limited 1-year warranty on parts and labor is a cheap match for a $600 product.
  • Fan placement – Customers have complained that the fan is so high, it hits just above the forehead.

for the Reebok RX4.0 Elliptical

The Reebok RX4.0 has proven itself to be a good quality exercise bike. We would honestly expect to hear a lot of complaints about this low-cost product, but we haven’t! While it isn’t close to commercial quality, the Reebok RX4.0 has gained many favorable reviews from owners. It’s loaded with exercise programs that make weight loss easy. People weighing close to the weight capacity haven’t complained about the bike being wobbly or noisy, so it seems to be constructed well. Our rating is four out of five stars.

Reebok T 7.90 Elliptical

The Reebok T 7.90 Elliptical Trainer is designed for beginners or those seeking only lightweight cardio training. Its SpaceSaver® design makes it easy to store. Other main attractions are the incline ramp and compatibility with iFit workout card readers. However, customer reviews are poor and this item is no longer widely available.

The MSRP for this machine is about $750. A hidden cost is the AC adaptor, which costs about $15 to $20, or the constant replenishing of batteries to power the elliptical trainer’s console. Another cost comes with the optional iFit card reader and workout cards. Only six programs are included with the purchase price.

Features of the Reebok T 7.90

The T 7.90 elliptical machine has a simple ClearView™ display with backlighting. It shows heart rate, speed, time, distance and calories burned. The console’s six preset workouts were designed by a certified personal trainer. They target aerobic goals, performance goals and weight loss. These include two heart rate control workouts that help you exercise in your target heart rate zone.

Additional programming is available to customers who add an iFit card reader to their ellipticals. Each iFit card adds eight weeks of personal training workouts. This isn’t the same as iFit Live, a service that uses wireless Internet to deliver customized workouts, Google Maps workouts, fitness advice and opportunities to compete in virtual races.

Full specifications for the Reebok T 7.90 are:

  • 18″ Stride
  • Oversized Pedals with Traction
  • Automatic Incline
  • Silent Magnetic Resistance
  • 12 Resistance Levels
  • 6 Preset Programs
  • iFit® Workout Card Compatibility
  • Grip Pulse Reader on Handlebars
  • Music Port for iPod®
  • Dual 2” Speakers by Intermix Acoustics™
  • Workout Fan
  • 300-Lb. User Capacity
  • 78″L x 34″W x 69″H
  • Lifetime Frame Warranty
  • 1 Year Parts & Labor Warranty

Customer Reviews

Compared with other elliptical trainers, the Reebok 7.90 gets lots of complaints. Trouble begins with assembly. Customers have reported being unhappy with the paid assembly service. When owners assemble the unit themselves, it’s not uncommon for them to report two people needing more than two hours plus power tools to get the job done. Parts are sometimes missing too and replacement isn’t always speedy. Sometimes “repair” has consisted of an ICON Health & Fitness technician using electrical tape as a cheap fix.

Another common complaint concerns the machine’s noisiness. The resistance might be silent but the frame is not. Squeaking is a problem when heavier people use this crosstrainer.

Our Overall Review of the Reebok T 7.90 Elliptical

We don’t recommend buying the Reebok T 7.90. Assembly is a headache, the machine is sub-standard and ICON customer service is not well-reviewed. For a similar price we think the Schwinn 450 is a better option. It has a shorter parts warranty but is much less likely than the Reebok T.90 to fall apart.

Reebok Super Ramp RL 7.0 Elliptical

Reebok’s Super Ramp RL 7.0 Elliptical Trainer supports a healthy 19–21″ adjustable stride and provides the challenge of an extra-steep workout ramp. This crosstrainer’s combination of stride lengths, incline angles and ample programming makes results come quickly. It’s made the Super Ramp RL 7.0 a big seller in the sub-$1000 elliptical trainer category. Nonetheless, reviews aren’t always glowing. Shoddy parts have been mentioned in many complaints.

Features of the Reebok Super Ramp Elliptical Trainer

A Grafixx™ display with backlighting tracks speed, time, distance, calories burned and heart rate. Eighteen preset programs and two user-designed programs can use 20 resistance levels each. Customer Comments About the Super Ramp RL 7.0 Elliptical

Customer reviews of the Reebok Super Ramp range from very disappointed to delighted. Reviews tend to be more positive when people bought the product on sale and it arrived without complications. Otherwise, they tend to say that they expected too much for the price.

When all goes well the RL 7.0 operates like a champ and earns great reviews. The ramp and sound system are hits and resistance is reportedly smooth. Somewhat commonly though, this item has reportedly been shipped without all required parts or was otherwise not operable.

Another drawback in some people’s opinions is the machine’s large size. It’s 6’8” long and can’t be folded for storage like some other large elliptical trainers. On the other hand, the hefty base contributes to this elliptical trainer’s high weight capacity.

Our Overall Review of the Reebok Super Ramp 7.0

It’s not easy to wholeheartedly recommend a product when it gets so many complaints. We rated this trainer slightly above average because some customers are very satisfied. Moreover, the long adjustable stride and the 40-degree ramp are exceptional features for a sub-$1000 trainer.

If this elliptical makes your short list, remember to research prices for the ProForm 1050E too before making a purchase. The ProForm model is virtually identical to the Reebok RL 7.0 and might have a better price. Both Reebok and ProForm are owned by ICON Health & Fitness and are born in the same factories.

We also recommend looking at some top-selling competitors that cost just a bit more. For about $1000 you can get a better value from brands like LiveStrong and Yowza.

Reebok RL 1500 Elliptical

The affordable Reebok RL 1500 lacks extras such as an incline or iFit programming, but it’s built to withstand years of use. It features 15 programs – 10 of which are personal training workouts – and has a 20” stride.

Elliptical Hits of the Reebok RL 1500 Elliptical

  • Attractive console – The stylish RL 1500 has an attractive red, white, and green console with an easy-to-read LCD display.
  • Compact size – Although it weighs a sturdy 220 pounds, this compact elliptical takes just 49”x23” of floor space.
  • Padded pedals – Oversized and padded pedals reduce fatigue and help workouts last longer.
  • Programs – The Reebok 1500 elliptical has 15 built-in workout programs. All were designed by a certified personal trainer, and ten are actually personal training programs.
  • Green power – This environmentally-friendly fitness equipment runs off of user energy, not the power grid.
  • Heart monitor – A hand grip heart rate monitor is included.
  • Workout fan – A console fan is well-positioned for people of average to taller heights.

Elliptical Misses

Overall Rating for the Reebok RL 1500 Elliptical

This machine is ideal for a wide range of athletes who aren’t interested in built-in speakers and other extras. The Reebok 1500 has a full, smooth stride and provides 10 personal training programs. It’s a serious enough machine to help anyone get into shape. Plus, it won’t add to your energy bill.

The down side? While the 1500 crosstrainer is more durable than some other Reeboks (like the 645), a one-year warranty

isn’t so comforting on a $2000 machine. With an online discount, the Reebok 1500 could be a great buy. Otherwise, check out some competitors such as Sole Fitness and NordicTrack.

Reebok RL 1000 ZX Elliptical

The Reebok RL 1000 ZX is a nice budget elliptical: it’s loaded with features and gets positive customer reviews. Nonetheless, its short warranty is a drawback. Here are some specs:

Elliptical Hits of the Reebok RL 1000 ZX

  • Comfortable pedals – Oversized, cushioned pedals help support long workouts, and the option to position feet differently lets exercisers isolate different muscles.
  • Programs – The Reebok 1000 includes 20 personal trainer workout programs plus an Audio CrossTrainer, which is a virtual fitness coach that leads users through strength-training and cardiovascular exercises.

  • Motorized incline – This special feature tilts exercisers by up to 30 degrees to promote faster calorie burning and the targeting of different muscle groups.

  • Short stride The 16” stride is good for most short to average-height users. A special feature of this machine lets users change the dimensions of the ellipse, so more people can get a good range of motion. However, tall people might feel as if they’re using a stairclimber more than an elliptical.
  • Heart monitor – An EKG grip pulse sensor is included.
  • Entertainment – An MP3-compatible music port is built into the console.

Elliptical Misses

  • Poor warranty – Reebok’s 90-day warranty is substandard for the home fitness industry.

Overall Rating for the Reebok RL 1000 Elliptical

The Reebok 1000 offers a short to medium stride, different elliptical motions, and a great variety of workout programs. Its combination of a steep incline and MP3 player is rare for a budget elliptical. Unfortunately, the RL 1000 is sold with a very short warranty. Customers might be better off purchasing ellipticals from Sole Fitness or other brands with longer warranties, but the Reebok 1000 elliptical will probably provide several years of use.

Reebok Elliptical Review RL 645

The low-priced Reebok RL 645 has nice extras such as iFit technology and a built-in fan, but it’s not designed for serious athletes. This trainer is best for those who will give it light to average use.

Elliptical Hits of the Reebok RL 645 Elliptical

  • Attractive console – Reebok emphasizes the stylishness of its elliptical trainers. The RL 645 has an attractive red, white, and green console with an easy-to-read LCD display.
  • Padded pedals – Extra-comfortable pedals help workouts last longer.
  • Programs – The Reebok 645 has 8 built-in workout programs and is wired to read iFit cartridges, each of which provides 8 weeks of additional workouts.
  • Power incline – This is an excellent feature for people who want an extra challenge. Incline training tones different muscle groups and burns calories more quickly than does regular elliptical training.
  • Heart monitor – A hand grip heart rate monitor is included.

Elliptical Misses

  • Short stride The RL 645 has a shorter stride than some other Reebok ellipticals. The stride length is actually excluded from the owner’s manual. For a 20” stride, check out the Reebok ellipticals become noisy and their fans are not positioned to cool off shorter exercisers. More importantly, the 645 is sold with a very short warranty. A customer would be better off purchasing a Sole Fitness, ProForm, or some other elliptical that’s protected for a longer time period.

Reebok Ellipticals

Reebok cross trainers are designed for the budget to middle market. They’re produced by ICON Fitness, the same company that owns HealthRider, and several other fitness brands. Reebok ellipticals have nice extras such as inclines, iFit technology, and built-in fans. A major drawback though is their short warranty: at most, Reebok ellipticals are guaranteed for one year of use.

Brand Features of Reebok Ellipticals

  • Good quality – Reebok machines last longer than budget ellipticals, but not as long as pricy machines. These machines don’t have “whisper-quiet” operation, but they aren’t terribly noisy either. Customers can expect to use Reebok ellipticals for at least a few years before serious maintenance is needed.

  • Variable strides Reebok ellipticals have 16”-20” strides, suiting small to tall owners.
  • Programs – Some Reebok ellipticals, like the RL 645 and RL 725, have just 8 built-in programs but have optional iFit programs. The 1000ZX, on the other hand, includes 20 personal trainer options but is not wired for iFit.
  • Heart monitor – Heart monitors are included.
  • Short warranties – Older Reebok ellipticals have just 90 day warranties, and newer Reeboks are protected for just a year.

Overall Rating for Reebok Ellipticals

The Reebok line has some nice features such as incline ramps, iFit workouts, and built-in workout fans. Some complaints, however, are that Reebok ellipticals become noisy and that their fans are not positioned to cool off shorter exercisers. Overall, these machines would earn better ratings if they had longer warranties. A customer would be better off purchasing a machine that’s protected for a longer time period.
